The Participants' Arrival
Last Sunday we welcomed an eager bunch of participants to Sutton Valence 4. They all had a smooth journey.
Upon arrival they were greeted by a traditional English headmistress and teachers.

Monday's Challenges
During the afternoon activities on Monday, the participants attempted to complete sixty challenges. Some had to teach the head teacher a new word. Others had to make a mummy out of toilet paper. Another challenge was to paint with his or her nose.

The Day of Fantasy and Fun
Today our participants turned into mythical and magical creatures (including a Smurf)when they wrote, rehearsed and later performed superb plays. Different locations across the one hundred acre school site and the nearby village were visited. (This is where they performed the aforementioned plays.) After the last performance, held in the ruins of the medieval castle in the village, the participants relaxed in front of a camp fire. Toasted marshmallows, hot chocolate and a singsong finished off another perfect day.

Getting to Know England Day
Today our participants enjoyed a full English breakfast at the start of the day. Later they played a variety of games linked to the different parts of Great Britain. At refreshments the participants learnt the correct way one should eat a scone.

Eggs Thursday
During the afternoon activities the participants designed, produced and demonstrated their 'egg crafts'. It was eggcellent! It was an eggstremely, eggstraordinary, eggshilirating activity.

Afternoon outing to Canterbury
Kids and staff spent a wonderful (sunny!) afternoon in Canterbury. First they did the Pilgrims' Walk around the city in small groups. Then there was time for some shopping. Many of them bought a nice souvenir for their parents or a small present for their secret friend in the camp. They all agreed it was a splendid outing...

Fair Trade Day
Yesterday we played a fair trade game. The participants learned about the world economy by representing a country in groups going from America, France, China etc. The winner was Saudi Arabia, selling oil in a very beneficial way.

Day of the Spoken Word
Today our participants became budding poets. Following the wake of great British poets such as Shakespeare, Byron and Shelley, they created their own masterpieces which they performed in the school chapel. During the afternoon they participated in an official photograph session. A whole group photograph was taken as well as staff, class groups and workshop groups.

Tuesday London Day / Wednesday Cinema Day
On Tuesday the participants spent a day in London. The coaches arrived at Greenwich for a boat trip on the Thames to Tower Bridge. In small groups they then explored the city (visiting a museum, doing some sightseeing...) until it was time for some shopping. Back in Sutton Valence at about 8.30 it was time for a real English fish and chips. Delicious that was, they almost all agreed...
Today, cinema day. In the lessons they learned about the different jobs in the film industry. After lunch they enjoyed a relaxing 'lazy' early afternoon. Some of them went for a run, others relaxed on the lawn. Following supper there were several film screenings from which they could choose such as 'Marley and me', 'How to lose a guy in ten days' and 'Toy Story 3'.

Saying goodbye
Sadly yesterday was the last day. During the day the participants prepared the concert evening: each workshop performed magnificently showing what they have been creating or developing throughout the camp. Following the presentations they enjoyed a disco. Today we had to say an unhappy farewell hoping to see them all back next year.
