Adrenaline from Almelo to Amsterdam

Do you want to heighten both your heart rate and your level of Dutch? Then this is the camp for you! At the end of the day, you will enjoy hanging out and chatting on the private beach or by the campfire, discussing your adventures on the high rope course, laser tag at the camp location or the trips you have made to Hellendoorn amusement park and the great city of Amsterdam.

From our camp location in Salland, a beautiful nature-filled region tucked away in the north of the Netherlands, we will do everything we can to increase both your adrenaline level and your Dutch language level. We incorporate Dutch language and culture in an organic way - you will be taking part in activities which ensure that you will hardly have time to think about the fact that you are speaking another language. As well as the high rope course, canoeing and raft building at our camp location, there will also be day trips to beautiful Amsterdam and Hellendoorn amusement park, where spectacular roller coasters and phenomenal water attractions await you. In the evenings, over a homemade pizza by the campfire, or in the sun on the beach during the rest days, there will be plenty of time to catch up and chat about your experiences with friends. But make the most of your rest-time because the next activity will be on before you know it!

Activities

  • At this camp we will be focusing on making practical use of the Dutch language. We limit the number of language workshops to one or two a day. Instead, we will go out into the local area to speak to locals, making very practical use of the Dutch we have learned. Of course, this all happens under the guidance of our experienced group leaders who are native Dutch speakers.
  • The location is a paradise for adventure-seekers: under professional supervision, you can try out archery or the high rope course, go canoeing, build rafts, play laser tag and more. There is a swimming pool, a theatre, a mini golf course and even a private beach!
  • In the evenings we will be socialising, playing board games or hanging out by the campfire. We will be organising a barbecue, baking baguettes together or taking a seat in the great old-fashioned cinema for a film (in Dutch, of course). The camp will finish with a fabulous party in the one and only “bus-bar”, so get ready for some serious dancing fun!

Excursions

The Netherlands may be known for being one of the Low Countries, but you can rest assured that we are aiming for high excitement levels with the excursions on this camp. In Hellendoorn amusement park you can ride one of the many spectacular roller coasters, but you will also find a fantastic water park full of slides and other water attractions. Thrill and chill combined, as it were. The highlight of this trip is the day trip to the beating heart of the Netherlands: Amsterdam. We will be taking photos in the historic centre with its hundreds of beautiful canals, strolling past the many authentic bookstores and boutiques and even daring to have a chat with some hip Amsterdammers in one of the city’s many cafés. We conclude the trip with a group photo at the famous #IAMSTERDAM letters.

Experience Camps – full immersion

A language is only truly learnt by experiencing it. This is the approach that anchors our Experience Camps. There is less of a focus on language workshops. Instead, we will refine your proficiency through a variety of activities in the target language.  Led by our group leaders, you will be holding debates, exploring a city, learning a new (adventurous) sport, or letting your creative side go wild – all in the target language. This also means that it is important that participants already have a basic knowledge of the language. We expect you to be able to understand simple conversations and instructions without much effort and to talk about day-to-day topics (talking about yourself, expressing your feelings, asking simple questions). Although these camps feature fewer (or no) language workshops, our group leaders remain focused on helping you to improve your skills and express yourself better in the target language.
