During this camp, youngsters from all over the world find each other in the heart of Ghent. The program includes a nice mix of culture and adventure, where we get to know Ghent in a completely different way. Does kayaking with your new, international friends on the enchanting Ghent canals and eating a delicious Belgian waffle afterwards sound like your idea of a perfect vacation? Then we would love to see you again in Ghent!
This camp is organized in cooperation with Vlamingen in de Wereld. This organization for expats brings together participants from all over the world to be immersed in the Dutch language and culture for a whole week.
Activities
- Practice your Dutch three to four times a day during fun language workshops adjusted to your level.
- You will be immersed in the rich culture and unique atmosphere of Ghent, but with a modern twist. We will visit the lesser-known side of the city, marvel at the hidden graffiti art and navigate our kayak along Ghent's wonderful canals. To conclude, like true university students, we will enjoy the beautiful weather on the Graslei.
- Daily sports and games ensure that you can get rid of your excess energy.
- In the evenings we socialise with board games or soda and talks during bar time, but you might also be treated to a festive casino evening or a pyjama movie night. Who knows what's in store!
- The camp concludes with an unforgettable party. Don't forget to bring your dancing shoes!
Full immersion
Please note: this camp is organised entirely in Dutch. We therefore expect participants to have at least a basic level of Dutch: they know how to introduce themselves, talk about their feelings, ask simple questions and understand everyday questions and instructions without much difficulty. If you are in doubt, please contact us!
Excursions
Art and culture are always right behind the corner in the photogenic centre of Ghent. A city walk will have us wandering amongst the trendy coffee bars and ancient facades, discovering the most beautiful corners of this vibrant city. You won't know where to begin as we see one beautiful building after another glide by from our boat. Along the way we will see the impressive Castle of the Counts and we will greet the throngs of students enjoying an ice cream on the Graslei.
Type of camp: Roeland Classic
You'll experience Roeland's well-known recipe for success: during the camp, you will only speak the target language, as will the camp coaches. The team consists of native speakers and/or speakers who have a very good command of the language. They will help you express yourself fluently in the target language. It's ok to make mistakes, of course, as long as you try! During the camp, you will follow language workshops in small groups and according to your level. This classic formula is the best way to make great progress and have fun. By the end of camp, you'll even be dreaming in the target language!

Coach transport
Coach transport is not included in the basic price and amounts to 55 euros (return).

Location
Nieuwen Bosch is an oasis of peace and calm tucked away in the centre of historical Ghent. Beneath the site’s ancient trees, you will find a multi-purpose sports hall, volleyball, mini-football and basketball courts, a recently refurbished playground and a spacious theatre. Summer camps in Oostakker: Camp participants sleep in single rooms.
